Renters’ Insurance
Do I Need Renters Insurance?
If you live in a rented condo or apartment and you have personal property in that rental unit, the answer is “yes”. The owner of your rented apartment is responsible for insuring the building itself but bears no responsibility for protecting your belongings or personal property inside that building. Renters insurance gives you that protection and peace of mind.
Renters insurance provides many of the same benefits as homeowners’ insurance. It protects the tenant’s personal property and belongings against named perils such as fire, theft, and vandalism. Most renters insurance policies also include liability insurance. It does not include coverage for the building or structure itself, with the exception of minor alterations made to the building by the tenant.
Is Renters Insurance Affordable?
Because renters insurance only covers personal property, it is surprisingly affordable. The cost of your policy and the specific amount of coverage you need depends on the value of the personal property you are seeking to cover. Our renters insurance experts will help you get a better understanding of how much coverage you need by asking you a few simple questions:
- How much are all of my belongings worth?
- If my belongings were destroyed in a fire or taken in a theft, could I afford to buy replacements?
- How would I handle a liability lawsuit against me?
We can help you determine the answers to these easy questions to ensure that you have the right insurance policy!
