5 Effective and Efficient Ways to De-Clutter Your Home

A lot of people find it difficult to be organized especially when they have too much stuff. If you find your place too messy to keep clean then it’s time for you to consider de-cluttering.  You should follow what the the proverb says: “A place for everything, and everything in its place.” Here are five ways to make de-cluttering and organizing more efficient and much more effective:
Involve the Whole Family

Cleaning can turn into a fun activity if more people are doing it together. If everyone from the family gets involved, then it can be a lot easier and more enjoyable. Letting the kids help you gives them valuable lessons in life.

Try giving your kids trash bags with the labels “trash,” “sell” and “donate” to teach them the value of cleanliness, the value of money and the value of charity.

Make It a Process

Don’t instantly give up when there are too many things to de-clutter. Accept the fact that it probably took years to get all your stuff and it’s not going to be decluttered in a single day. Start with a single drawer and move on. Or focus on one category of things to get rid of, like clothes, books, mementos, etc.

Decluttering is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. You can spent an hour or two a day for cleaning. Before you even notice it, you will be amazed as to how much you have already cleaned within just a few days.

Creating Memorabilia Out of Favorite Stuff

You can make one quilt out of an entire closet full of your favorite T-Shirts. And for paper items, including maps, concert tickets, receipts, notes and the likes you can laminate or frame these small papers to preserve them. You can use them as a bookmarker or anything that is useful to you.

Say No to Organizational Bins

Many people will immediately think of organizational bins when we start talking about de-cluttering. They think it is the best way to keep things in place. Well, unfortunately, it is not! It will just postpone the inevitable urge to keep unnecessary items. Once you have successfully de-cluttered, you will find yourself no longer needing for these organizational bins.

Get Real About What You Really Need

The problem with many people is they find it too difficult to let go of some items even when these are no longer of use to them. It’s easy to get emotionally attached to stuff. However, it’s better for your sanity and cleanliness to part ways with things that are no longer helpful to you. Think which stuff are no longer in use.

If you don’t love it. Toss it.

So why should your insurance agency care about de-cluttering your home? Because decluttering actually makes your home much safer than ever. It reduces fire hazards, accidents, and other risks and those are things we prefer our home insurance customers avoid.
